National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign
Another Successful Charity Campaign for 17 Wing/CFB Winnipeg
The National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign has closed for another season, and what a season it was. The National Champion, LGen Kenny, set a lofty goal of $60,000 in donations for Winnipeg, and we as a team rose to the challenge to do just that, raising just over our target!
Departmentally, the focus was on the e-pledge system of payroll deductions and one-time cash donations for the bulk of its overall fundraising. In this regard,17 Wing/ CFB Winnipeg was no slouch, raising $30,000 - half the overall total – through these individual donations. The WCWO and I would thank everyone for their individual donations as the base had a 65% increase in the number of donors from last year.
Moreover, it is the local Winnipeg campaign that truly demonstrates how we come together as a community. The nationally-broadcasted RCAF Band Holiday Concert, the city-wide Plane Pull, the Wing efforts of the Tire Change and Portraits Imagery, and the individual $2 to wear civilian attire on Fridays: it all counted. In Manitoba, due to a provincial grant, United Way collects no overhead from donations with 100% of funds raised going to the 125+ agencies they support. Therefore, every dollar raised through these local base activities goes directly to supporting Winnipeggers, including family and friends of base personnel and employees in times of need.
On behalf of CWO Cousineau and myself, we thank you for your giving spirit and look forward to a successful campaign in 2025!
