Announcing Stefy Reed, New Family Liaison Officer, Winnipeg MFRC
The Winnipeg MFRC is delighted to reintroduce Stefy Reed, BSW, RSW, in her new role as our Family Liaison Officer at the 17 Wing Transition Centre (TC).
Formerly, our Child and Family Social Worker, Stefy, returns after maternity leave with newfound inspiration and strength as a new mom, ready to provide support to the families of the ill, injured, and fallen military members, as well as to the staff of TC.
For those who may not know, Stefy brings eight years of experience assisting a diverse range of clients. She sees her clients as the experts of their lives and works alongside them as they share their stories and work on reassigning influence and meaning to their stories.
Her expertise covers areas such as family violence, trauma, substance misuse, grief and loss, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, gender identity crises, infertility, anxiety, depression, and self-harm or suicidal ideation.
Her extensive experience also includes two years with us in supporting military couples, children, youth and single individuals who have gone through frequent relocations, absences of loved ones, or adjustments to military or civilian life.
Stefy holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Manitoba, a diploma in post-traumatic stress disorder awareness and in addiction treatment from the Centre of Excellence. With various training in topics such as Restorative Justice, Gender and Identity, Body-Oriented Trauma Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method and Narrative Therapy, she is well-equipped with the latest knowledge and skills to continue to support our 17 Wing community in her new role.
Stefy will primarily provide counselling and mental health supports, emergency assistance and referrals to other resources, as well as advocacy and case management support to military families. She is also excited to share her expertise and support the work of TC staff, Designated Assistants (DA) and Padres as they serve their specific clientele. She will remain involved in the Helping Professionals (HP) committee and a strong advocate for gender-based violence (GBV) initiatives on the base.
Stefy is eager to meet with new clients in her new office in the MFRC building, ensuring a safe and respectful space where they feel seen and heard as they navigate through the complex challenges of unforeseen changes in their health, well-being, and family life due to injury, illness, or death.
"Everyone has different tolerance levels when faced with difficult situations. There is not always something positive for those affected or a brighter side to look at. When there's nothing we can say to ease the pain, just being there to listen and be a source of comfort can make a world of difference," said Stefy.
If you or your family are dealing with these difficult situations, please know you do not need to face them alone. Remember that we have a Family Liaison Officer for you at the Transition Centre. Contact Stefy today to access the supports and resources available to you. To make an appointment, email stefy.reed@winnipegmfrc.ca or call 204-833-2500 ext. 257 4519.
