In an rousing showcase of camaraderie and sport, 17 Soldier On members from the Winnipeg area laced up their skates for a one-of-a-kind hockey experience alongside Winnipeg Jets alumni. Held at the Hockey for All Centre, the event brought together serving members and veterans who took to the ice in a spirited game against legendary Jets alumni, including Ray Neufeld, Derek Meech, Justin Kurtz, Perry Miller, and others.
While the scoreboard might have revealed a lopsided victory in favor of the alumni—let’s just say the Soldier On team’s highlight reel mostly featured their defensive efforts—the smiles and laughter on both sides were the real win of the day. After the game, participants enjoyed a special meet-and-greet lunch, graciously hosted by True North Sports and Entertainment.
Santa, played by Soldier On Regional Coordinator Dan Whittaker, delivered custom fly the 48 jerseys to the Soldier On participants, adding a festive touch to the unforgettable afternoon. The experience concluded with members attending the Winnipeg Jets’ Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Night on December 8th, where they watched the Jets face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Soldier On events like these highlight the power of sport, help with building connections with likeminded individuals, fosters teamwork, and celebrates the dedication of those who have devoted their lives to service.
